Thank you for visiting our website!
Welcome to the website for Christ UMC and Continental UMC in Continental Ohio. I am glad you have chosen to spend a few moments looking around, discovering our church family. As I describe the Continental Churches to people, I use words like ‘community’ and ‘family.’
We are a group of people committed to following Jesus. That means we worship him with vigor and joy. That means we encourage prayer in church and throughout life. That means we love people outside the church through generosity, invitation, and compassion.
Our hope is that all people will feel loved and welcomed at Christ and Continental UMC. And once here, we pray that people will meet God and, as a result of meeting God, give their lives to Jesus Christ. We want that for you. Come as you are. Check us out, but more importantly, seek the truth of God that can only be known when one knows Jesus.
While you are browsing our website, you will learn about our programs and get a glimpse of who we are, but only a glimpse. To fully understand us, come to a worship service or to a small group and feel the up-close, in-person fellowship that comes when people share time together with the Holy Spirit present. You can also watch a live stream of the Continental UMC on out Facebook page at 10:15 every Sunday morning.
Enjoy the website, then come. We’d love to meet you and know you.
No one wants to see a church die. And yet, far too many churches are dying. For more than 25 years, Thom Rainer churches grow, reverse the trends of decline, and has autopsied those church that have died. Form his experience he has discovered some consistent themes among those churches that have died. Yet, it's not all doom and gloom because, from those themes, lessons on how to keep the church alive have emerged. Thom Rainer's book, Autopsy of a Deceased Church, will walk us through the radical paths necessary to keep our churches alive to the glory of God and the advancement of God's Kingdom.
Pastor Doug will lead a Study Rainer's book, Autopsy of a Deceased Church, The Study will begin on Sunday, July 9, 3:30 at the Christ Church. Please plan to attend this study as we seek ways to be more effective in ministry to our community and world. please let Pastor Doug know if you will be attending, so books can be purchased.
Our Monday Morning Bible Study will take a short break for 6 weeks. Our last day of Bible Study will Monday, may 8, 2023, and we will resume on Monday, July 10, 10:00am.
Pastor Doug will be out of the pulpit on May 21 and 28. Brooke Chastain, director of Lifewise-Continental, will be our guest preacher on Sunday, May 21, and Judge Scott Barrett, retired Common Please Court Judge of Hardin County, will be our guest preacher on May 8.
Beginning June 4, Pastor Doug will be starting a 4 week sermon series entitled, Revive Us! For some, the word revival evokes images of fiery preaching and miracle healings. For others, it has little meaning. This four-week series helps us rightly define and understand revival and its effects on individuals and communities. Though the word revival isn’t found in the Bible, there are accounts of significant outpourings of God’s Spirit on his people, times of spiritual reform, and times of awakening in the spiritual lives of God’s people. We’ll explore these events and discover how we might experience this same revival in our lives and churches today.
June 4: Revive Us! (2 Chronicles 7:12-22)
June 11: Marks of True Revival (2 Kings 22-23)
June 18. Revival Praying (Nehemiah 1:4-7)
June 25: The Road to Spiritual Renewal. (Matthew 3:1-12
July 2: Revival Fire (Acts 2 & 4)
